Bad luck to the Monash teams. They tried their guts out in the hardest tournament in the world and came up a little bit short. But they prepared hard and gave it their all - and I for one am very proud! Coming in the top 32 in a 339 team tournament is a very tough ask!
Congrats to Steve and Claire - two fantastic adjudicators who are now officially some of the best in the world. Well done!
Well done also to Melbourne, UQ and Sydney who broke teams - good work guys.
And as for Monash, we'll be back with a vengeance next year!

It should also be pointed out that Nicole Lynch also broke as an adjudicator. Congratulations Nicole!
Spoke to TS who confirmed that MA and MB were very very close to breaking, and were both very comfortably in the top 50 teams at the tournament. MA may have missed out merely on speaker points but i am not sure on that. Apparently Victor was very very close to breaking as an adjudicator as well.
Here is the draw for the Octo Finals for those who are interested:
(01) Oxford D (16) Oxford B (17) Oxford A (32) St. Andrews A
(08) Sydney B (09) UCD L&H A (24) Durham B (25) UQ B
(04) Sydney A (13) UCC Philosophy A (20) Sydney G (29) Middle Temple A
(05) Sydney E (12) Oxford C (21) SMU B (28) Manchester A
(06) McGill A (11) Cambridge A (22) Alaska A (27) Melbourne A
(03) Oxford E (14) Yale B (19) UQ A (30) KCL A

Cork (aka UCC Philosophy) won the bid to host in 2009 despite a surprisingly strong bid from Botswana (who was going to have Logan as CA).
Derek Lande will be the CA.
Assumption had their bid for 2008 ratified unopposed.

Great topic for the Octos.
Quarter Finals Draw is as follows:
Oxford D St. Andrews A UCD L&H A UQ B
Sydney A Sydney G Sydney E Oxford C
UQ A KCL A Cambridge A Alaska A
Stanford A George Washington A Sydney D Cambridge C
Melbourne were knocked out in the Octos. Both UQ teams are still alive. Four Sydney teams are still alive, with three of them in the one debate in the quarters.
The Quarter Final topic is:
"That this house believes that people sentenced to life imprisonment should be able to choose the death penalty instead."

Sorry for the double post but I have some more updates.
Steve and Nicole are currently adjudicating the quarters, which is great news! Claire is adjudicating the ESL finals. Tim S is obviously also still adjudicating.
According to my source, Melbourne A were stone-cold-robbed in their Octo - bad luck guys.
