well done to all the teams so far - looks like they are going great guns - keep at it fellas!!
am i correct in saying that 19 points will guarantee a break, with 18 points breaking subject to speaker scores? Ive based that on my memory of KL worlds, where there were 312 teams, and from memory, about 5 or 6 teams on 18 didnt break...or am i way off?

I seem to remember that too. Particularly with an extra 20 teams or so, I suspect 18 won't guarantee a break, although I'm far from an expert.

That blog of Ciaran's is really a triumph of nerdiness - that boy needs to get out more. I never thought I'd meet a bigger debating nerd than me, but there he is - faithfully recording every result and motion.
Let's hope for a few 3 pointers for Monash in round six.
Anyway - all of you should be out enjoying the Melbourne sunshine (well, smokehaze anyway) rather than following results of Worlds on the web. I'm not missing Worlds at all - I'm just checking the online results out of curiosity, don't worry everyone, I'm not suffering any withdrawal symptoms. Although what do you do in Melbourne over the NY weekend? I haven't spent one in melbourne since 1999-2000!!!!

hey guys i have more updates (thank you to staggy for the phone call, and mushi for the sms - much appreciated. and thank you to whoever created internet on phones - its a godsend)
Monash A and D have finished the day on 10 points.
Monash C is on 7 points (this isnt confirmed - neither was sure)
In regards to adjudicators, apparently everyone is doing very well and getting very good feedback.

So that leaves most teams in contention to break still. Good work everyone.
If my source is correct this means the teams are as follows at the close of day 2:
Melb A: 12 Mon B: 12 Mon A: 10 Mon D: 10 Mon C: Unconfirmed (somewhere around 7-9 pts).
Have confirmed with a source in Vancouver that 19 points is required to break. It is possible that a few teams on 19 may miss out on speaker scores. If this is wrong then someone else correct me.
Big day tomorrow. Go MAD!

Colm Flynn's site is down atm so not sure of general results.
However, here are the stats that I am aware of so far:
Round by Round Breakdown:
Round: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
MON A: 3 - 2 - 2 - 0 - 3 - 0 (10) MON B: 3 - 3 - 0 - 3 - 2 - 1 (12)
Other Aust teams unknown at this stage.

You could always recreate your own Worlds Smiddy, I'm sure you'd get a few people helping *cough* Julian, Staggy, Sashi etc. (possibly me but lets not dwell on that)
That would be pretty sad though...but then again, you kinda are...
GO Victorian teams!

Just finished Round 8. Tom and I were in a 13 point room. So we must have won this morning, thank god. Haven't seen the others yet.
Looks like Monash B didn't take the donut in Round 7 but we can't tell much more than that.
Topic was 'that this house would ban cosmetic surgery'.
Very good debate, very close.
Hope all your hangovers aren't too bad back home.

That's great news Jake, keep up the good work. I think we'll all be on the edge of our seats for the next few hours till we hear about the break.
Incidentally, Colm Flynn's site seems to be periodically overwhelmed by the traffic, but I manged to get through just now - here's the round 7 and 9 topics for those who are interested:
R7: This house would support regime change in Myanmar/Burma
R9: This house would grant citizenship in exchange for military service
