Hi folks, Registration for Melbourne Mini is now open! Last year MM was a great success, and we're really looking forward to having as many MADdies as possible again this year. So what is Melbourne Mini? It's pretty much the same as the suspiciously-similar sounding Sydney Mini, except it's a lot closer to home. It is jointly run by MUDS and the DAV. There will be six rounds of debating in BP style, finals, an exhibition debate for those who want to see how it's done, a championship dinner, all food provided, and, of course, bar tabs! When and where? Friday 8 December - Sunday 10 December at the Melbourne University Law School How much? $65 for debaters and $50 for adjudicators. Rego is due by Friday 24 November (bank details and rego form are on our website). Sounds hot. How do I find out more? Visit our website at www.dav.com.au/index.php?option=displaypage&Itemid=192&op=page&SubMenu=192Email melbourne.mini@gmail.com Call 9348 9477. We look forward to seeing you there! No worries mate - I'm always looking for more ways to procrastinate.
Tom and Jake won the final from Closing Opp, beating Liz and Bobby (OG), Tim and Kim (OO), and Phil and Brad (CG) in the final (which was appropriately described by Bobby as "the oldest grand final ever"). Liz and Kim were joint best speakers.
Given that Tom and Jake won the final, I'm kinda surprised that the MAD propaganda machine (ie Julian) hasn't already put a big spread on the website!

It was a very good tournament for MAD.
Jake and Tom both ranked in the top 10. Tim S ranked equal third with Bobby from Ateneo.
The team of Amit and Fi broke to Semis, which was a very big achievement given the quality of the tournament.
Mushy and Roshena were very very unlucky not to break, and did very well. In a very high quality tournament, MAD C finished on around 9 points and MAD D also went pretty well, learning a lot and scaring some more experienced teams along the way. Other MADies went well when debating in swing teams.
Tim J and Staggy adjudicated the Grand Final along with Ivan from Sydney and Lucia / Dan C from Melbourne. Rhys and Nat began the tournament trainee adjudicating and were both doing rooms by themselves by the end of the tournament.
Congratulations to everyone - another good tournament for MAD.

Sorry to disappoint my legion of fans, but sadly I won't be posting to the News section of the website anymore. Me and Amit are working out some issues with editing the website on his Mac, once we figure it out Amit will be your full-time webslave, whose first task will be to write a Melbourne Mini report. While I'm here, congratulations to all, what a fantastic two weeks for MAD. So the 2006 record for MAD now stands at... Easters - 3 teams break, 2 GF adjudicators President's Cup - Winners ADAM - Winners Australs - Winners MUDS BP Novice Cup - Runners Up Womens - Runners Up Syd Mini - Runners Up / Half winners Melb Mini - Winners Alberta - ? Worlds -

actually Julian, your posting of MAD's record for 2006 is a tad incorrect.
Whatever MAD achieves at Worlds, be it as winners or runners up (yes im being uber positive), that will be part of our 2007 record and not our 2006 record, seeing as its UBC 2007. The tournament missing from the 2006 record is Fi and Dev breaking as Monash C to the octos, and the 4 other adjudicators who made various stages of the finals. An unfortunate ommission, but an ommission none the less.
However, that being said, congratulations to all MADdies on what has been a stellar year for us! I've definitely enjoyed myself this year, and lets keep up the awesome work next year!
