For anyone unlucky enough not to be at Australs right now, I thought I'd just fill you in on what's going on.
Monash 1 broke first with seven wins, with Melbourne 1 second on six after a narrow loss to Monash in the sixth round. Vic Wellington 1 were third and Ateneo fourth.
Monash 2 also broke with five wins. I can't remember exactly where, but I think it might have been eleventh.
Melbourne 2 and Melbourne 4 also broke in ninth and sixteenth places respectively.
Seven (!) Monash judges broke: Kylie, Tim, Doug, Claire, Prasanna, Stephen and Jasmine.
Council is today. UT Mara is bidding unopposed for Australs 2007.

Yeah, sorry for the misinformation regarding Monash 2.
Monash 2 went down to Sydney 2 on a 2-1 split with all adjudicators giving one point margins.
Monash 1 beat Melbourne 4 unanimously. Melbourne 1 and 2 are also through. Sydney 1 were knocked out by MMU.
Monash 1 meets Sydney 2 in the quarter final.

Hey all,
Just letting you know that in a very high-quality, intense and passionate Australs Grand Final, Monash 1 beat Melbourne 1; again proving that this is Monash's year (with many more to come).
Congratulations to Tom, Jake and Roland (who also received the prize for Best Speaker in the Grand Final).
There will be more updates soon but for now I'm signing off, Nat - A Maddie still in awe of her amazing debating club.

Tim S, Steve and Kylie all adjudicated the semis, Jas the ESL break, and Pras, Claire and Doug all adjudicated the quarters.
Not only was it an all-Victorian Grand Final, but 7 of the top 10 speakers were victorian - Tom was equal 10th, Jake 7th and Roland 2nd best overall. Liz S was best speaker, with Jess Moir, Lucia and Duncan from Melbourne all in the top 10 somewhere.

A fantastic result for Monash, a fantastic result for Victoria and a fantastic result for the bars and bottle-shops of Wellington.
Great tournament. Everyone except the Ibis Hotel, and possibily the University of Sydney Union will have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Aaaay guys, I'm currently enjoying the recovery process. As the lowest ranked MADdie, I conjecture that my only benefit to this tournament was to provide dance moves which constantly incited hysteria (especially in video form), and to upload photos to my blog at spaces.msn.com/laurandorder/ Unfortunately I've been pretty lax this tournament, especially since Meg broke my camera on the first night!! Nonetheless, if you want to see my 150 or so photos, you'll need to add me (just_improvise@hotmail.com) to your MSN list. Else, just wait for the photo CD/DVD which Julian and/or Nat better darn well produce! Dancin' (And Not Much Else Of Any Benefit) Laura

Hey all, I know I won't be the first or last to say this, but congratulations to the Vic Uni orgcomm for a wonderfully organised tournament, and also to those awesome debaters from both MAD and MUDS who ensured it was a Victorian dominated tournament in every sense of the word. Finally, for those who enjoy tabs and the like, the full speaker tab, full team tab and the full finals draw can be viewed/downloaded from the tournament website, www.australs2006.com Looking forward to seeing everyone back in Melbourne Cheers Steve

Did we win? I thought it was merely a drug-induced hallucination!
Seriously though, we do rock. Again.
Does anyone have / can be bothered formulating a list of motions for all those MADies who didnt go to the tournament but might be interested?

Funnily enough, I have a list of the motions at home which I will post when I get there later this evening.
To wean myself off Australs, I'm currently having my second glass of wine at my desk. I really hope others are in better shape....
Congratulations to all of the MAD adjudicators and debaters who did MAD (and this MADdie in particular) very proud.
It was an honour to be part of it all.

I'd just like to say that as one of the lucky first-years at this tournament, not only was I bloody proud to be a MADDIE because of our debating prowess, but also because of our social abilities which surpassed that of any other uni. You older hacks have been an amazing inspiration, and I hope that one day this generation of young 'uns will do your precedent justice.
Oh god I'm soppy - new topic: Could everyone who took photos PLEASE burn them onto a CD and give them to me at the first MAD meeting back, because I'm going to produce a kick-ass, funny-as DVD from Australs!

On the topic of potatoes...
Does anyone have a copy of the potato council songs. Or Victor, if you've got the minutes of the first meeting of the potato council, that would be super, I'll whack them up in the members section.
